02/04/2002 - Switch to irssiGot rid of buggy old epic4. Switched to using irssi, which I'm finding much, much better.
05/02/2002 - Procmail logNot much happening here, but you can see my procmail log viewer in the bottom left there, plus the procmail spam filter picking up some spam and the logviewer highlighting the fact. All this stuff is on the downloads page as ever.
21/01/2002 - SawfishSo E16 has been kicked off my desktop. Buggy and slow and not nearly as configurable as it was always meant to be (I should know, I hacked on it for a good while) - it's time for that WM to die. Sawfish has come on in leaps and bounds and is now great. As you'll see from the screenshot, I set it up to look like my old E setup, with the same spiffE menus and everything. However it's not only the same as the old E setup, it's way better. Sawfish's key and menu bindings are vastly more powerful than E's - you can mix border styles and themes, and it has awesome windowmatching capabilities. It's also really extensible, if you can hack in lisp. Anyway, I'm much happier now - window resizes are snappy, making image viewing in feh [link deleted] much more pleasant - E used to sometimes take a few seconds to resize a window and that was annoying.
21/08/2001 - NOW I AM AS COOL AS PABSPaul was bitching that I hadn't taken a screenshot in ages. So I checked out his screenshot page for inspiration and WOW! THE ONES AT THE BOTTOM ARE THE BEST! I WANT TO BE LIKE THAT! So I tore down my desktop, and redesigned it from scratch using the pabs style guide. I hope you like it!!! I think it's 31337!!
22/12/2000 - Hacking awayOkay, just threw off a quick shot as I was hacking away productively, this is what my desktop looks like when I'm really going for it :-)
04/12/2000 - Switched to dual headI've switched to dual head for a bit, mainly so I can have a little opengl in my life, and for watching the odd DVD at a reasonable frame rate.
02/11/2000 - Same old same oldNot much has changed. I've been too busy hacking on stuff and finding a job to play around much with my desktop. Here it is right now though...
08/07/2000 - Long time no shot.Long time since the last shot. Please don't look too closely at any of the URLS that may be mentioned on the screen. Pablo P Duncan was being a bit of an ass :-) I think he was upset over the thing his mom and I have got going...
25/03/2000 - Just some stuffWow. A screenshot. Haven't done one of these in months =) What can I say?
08/01/2000 - VNC's quite coolHere's me running vnc, in order to see how my page looks under IE 5.0. It always urks me how IE and Netscape can never agree on font sizes. *sigh*. Maybe I should use pixel sizes in my stylesheet to counter it, but it seems such a hack =P
06/01/2000 - Feh! Feh! Feh!Well, feh's in there somewhere, as well as denzil (the other pc on my home network) getting it's nightly apt-get upgrade :)
I'm thinking of moving my primary desktop over to debian soon, potato is _so_ easy to keep up to date. I compile *everything* for my primary desktop at the moment, because rpms are so slow to emerge...
Other stuff visible is TE (third eye script for epic), gkrellm and a few epplets.
29/11/1999 - Epplets and stuffHrm. Just chillin. I can never think of stuff to tell you guys these days... Oh, examine the epplets in the top-right, I wrote four of 'em :)
01/10/1999 - Green weekI'm feeling green this week ;-)
This shot was taken using E-ScreenShoot, my new epplet for enlightenment. Also seen in this shot are my E-Mixer volume control epplet, and my E-SD sound monitor for esd.
Unfortunately, gnome has been demoted to a simple app-launcher for now, although I still use a couple of gnome apps (gnumeric mostly). I had so many annoyances with gnome-session, I just gave up on it. I tried to suggest stuff to the developers, but was pretty much brick-walled, and getting into the code was not an option, as life is pretty full right now ;-)
01/10/1999 - GkrellmCheck out Gkrellm! Its the multi-monitor in the bottom right of the shot. It absolutely rules -- so go and download it right now!
Can you see my screenshooter-applet? Nope, its a new feature I'm working on, where it gets out of the way before taking the shot - if you want...
29/09/1999 - Imlib2Hi folks. Same high resolution, smaller thumbnails. Tidier? I think so.
Lots to see here, I got bored, so I fiddled with stuff. Check it out :)
19/09/1999 - Applet hits fmIts been a while since my last screenshot. But since I just wrote the Screen-Shooter applet, I no longer have an excuse. So you may notice I'm now running a somewhat higher resolution. I'm afraid that means my screenshots just got a little larger. Sorry folks.
So anyway, this one shows me checking out my applet on Freshmeat (woohoo!). Also notice my Screen-shooter applet on the bottom-right-corner panel (second from top). Teeny isn't he? So I'm watching TV (as always), and have a couple of loggers ticking. Not much else to report really, except the e iconbox somewhere in the shot. Finding it is an exercise for the reader, as the background and border are set to transparent... There are a couple of icons in it to help you ;)
17/08/1999 - Just stuff Here I am, editing my website. Check out CVS gnome!
The new mini-panel option is what I have been waiting for since v0.3,
and is very nice. Saves me soooo much screen estate!
The quicklaunch applet is no longer being updated, so I had to update
it to work with the new panel, and have added a long awaited 'New
Launcher...' right-click option. I may release the necessary changes as
a patch, but I'll have to check with the author first. When I get round
to it....
BTW. The gtk-theme I'm using is QNX-photon, which is really nice and
funky looking, but is missing a couple of images. Drat.
08/08/1999 - Gnome-scrabbleAnd here's my latest project. Gnome-scrabble (working title, you can't call a scrabble game by anything interesting IMO). Its really rough at the moment, but some core routines are now present, and its fun to work on! I may put some source up soon, but its still far too embaressing for that!
07/08/1999 - More MozillaMozilla again. Its still pretty ropey to use, and does not like forms on web pages much, but is coming along in leaps and bounds (the developers are being pretty ambitious in certain areas IMO). Vim is in full use in the bottom right, hacking up the Empg123 script again, improving bits and bobs.
Check out mutt in the bottom left. Totally gotten the hang of it now, and I love it to bits. I don't know how I survived without it, really.
06/08/1999 - MozillaSo here I am again. Not much has changed here... There's mozilla on the left there, being put through its paces, and my TV card (always on) in the top right.
25/07/1999 - Mutt owns YOU!Sorted! Say hello to Mutt, the mail client I have always wanted, but didn't know it 'till now. You really, really should check it out. I shall be devoting a page to it soon, it has great power, and therefore many hidden goodies for me to share. Just so you know, it has macros, colour, regexps, threading, colourisation of separate parts of messages, the list goes on. It gives almost total control.
While i was at it, I discovered vim. This is a very cool editor, and goes very well with mutt. (Mutt uses it for actual message composition). Don't worry, a Vim page will appear here soon too.
By the way... Check out the bottom left of this screenshot, what's that above the pager??? Just the new enlightenment iconbox (its been a long time coming). Its not finished yet, and is only available in CVS right now, but is a very cool thing indeed. Basically, it displays a minimised image of the window contents when you iconfiy an app. Check it out, its sweet.
20/07/1999 - Fed up with PineSo, here I am, watching TV, reading mail, and updating my local copy of CVS enlightenment. Life is good, but I am finally becoming irate at the lack of flexibility of the Pine email client. No macros, regexps, color, no fun. I don't meant any offence to its makers, it is highly useful, stable and solidly put together, I just fancy more umph...
13/07/1999 - Crappy netscape Well, here I am having just upgraded netscape to 4.61. Not recommended! I think I'll go back to 4.51, this version is unstable as hell!
Still, never mind all that. Check out the check out the border around XawTV. I'm using a modified version of the pager border from the BrushMetal theme (thanks TigerT). It slides in to the right, and can be resized from the bottom-left corner.
12/07/1999 - CVS EnlightenmentAlso, I just updated my copy of CVS enlightenment. NEW iconbox, functional wm-dock, and other nifty tweaks. The last few days have seen massive progress in the e source tree, mostly from Mandrake. (Unless Raster's been skimping on the changelog again).
The new e CVS server is nice and fast, so I recommend keeping up to date at the moment. Also, check out the updated (first time in months) enlightenment site. Very nice look guys. I hope this means BrushedMetal will be the new default theme!
13/06/1999 - TV Card :)Woohoo! I finally got around to fixing my TV card. I had to make a few alterations to the bttv driver, but I finally got it running. As you can see, I'm currently watching "Clear and Present Danger". (For about the 12th time). That bttv driver sure is a beauty, if you've got a TV card and run linux, you'll need to go download it. There is an in-kernel version if you're running the latest 2.2.x kernels (as I am), but I wanted to tweak the driver, and didn't want to risk killing my kernel! Download the driver, and (as long as you built your kernel with "Store version information in all symbols for modules"), you can insert the driver as a module into your running kernel.
By the way, the software actually showing the picture, changing channels etc, is the wonderful XawTV. Go and download that too.
09/06/1999 - StuffA few things to check out here. Notice Pine (bottom left) my favorite email program.
I'm still using Enlightenment(of course) but now with the Brushed Metal theme by TigerT. Very nice.
Notice eXtace in the top left, simple but gorgeous visualisation prog by the Rasterman.
Top right is a program called rt (short for root-tail). This tails the syslog directly onto the root window. Lush.
I'm now using two Gnome panels (bottom). Both corner panels, so they can be shrunk to a few pixels, one launches apps, the other monitors stuff. The monitors are (right-hand panel, left to right) processor load, mem-load, esd (sound manager) status, volume control, and the modem-lights dialer applet.
08/06/1999 - Empg123Ok. I've left GQMpeg alone for awhile, 'cos I've found something better. A couple of scripts called Empg123 are all I need now. The menu shown in the centre, is provided by Enlightenment, it is the normal root-menu from which you launch apps. Empg123 scans a pre-determined set of directories and adds their contents to the root-menu. Not only that, it adds a menu of playlists, created from the contents of each directory. Just click a song, or playlist, and mpg123 (which you must have installed) starts playing. There's also a "stop" menu item. How cool is that???
You may notice emacs in the bottom left, editing my web-page. It normally gets more screen-space than this, but for the benefit of a screenshot, I shrank it.
07/06/1999 - Enlightenment rocks :-) You need another reason to use Enlightenment? Sigh. Oh well. Here's another reason. You wanna change you desktop wallpaper? Sure, just put a directory scanning menu in your enlightenment options, and there'll be a thumbnail of each one wherever you want on the root menu! How cool is that. just click one, and it'll become your wallpaper.
