Draw to root window

I'd like feh to be able to draw to the root window so the image is like embedded in the background, doesn't show up in the pager and can't gain focus. It just sits in the background like part of the wallpaper that can potentially change (by modifying the file feh is reading from and starting feh in -R <update interval> mode). I'm talking about functionality much like the way conky by default draws to the root window. It might be helpful borrowing the functionality of toon_root.c [ http://www.koders.com/c/fid3A542CD442140144DE353023A75F039DAB50A3EA.aspx ] to find the root window on various desktop environments.
